My holiday was the laziest one ever, and we visited only one castle: Rochepot, a castle that was restored to its medieval glory.
It came right out of a fairy tale, a pity you had to take a guided tour, I would have loved to see it without other tourists in it (a bit selfish, I know...).
When I go to a romantic castle like this one, I try to imagine how it would have been like to live in the Middle Ages. It's nice to think it was like in this paintings of J.W. Waterhouse.

So romantic. I love the paintings. Everyone should get 20 minutes *alone* in the castle, so they can slip into the fantasy of romantic medieval days... with no cell phone-camera toting tourists to mess up the vision! LOL
Oh wow!--so beautiful! I know what you mean, don't you wish you could wander at will alone instead of taking guided tours...*sigh* Just beautiful though!

Coupled along with the fine wines and cremant made in the village of La Rochepot the "magical castle" inspired my wife and I to own a property there. Always welcoming, Always different.
Some people have all the luck...I would love to live in Burgundy!
