This village was to me the perfect setting for a Tim Burton movie, a bit grey and a bit gloomy, but beautiful.


This house was quite impressive, it belonged to a rich cloth-making merchant.

On the walls were a lot of creepy portraits like this one.

We went to see an exhibition with photographs of August Sander, he took portraits of all kind of people in Germany.

Trier

Trier, not far from home, and already a different world.

The Porta Nigra (Latin: black gate) is a large Roman city gate in Trier, Germany. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been designated a World Heritage Site. Quite impressive to see a Roman building, this size!

We also went to an exhibition of Constantin the Great, a Roman emperor.His main residence from 306 untill 316 AD was Trier.


The sky was blue, but it was sooo cold!

A week of drawing...

...autumn.
I haven't been drawing in my sketchbook for a long time now, and I really have to force myself to start again.
Once I am settled with my paint and pencils, it is so nice to do, and yet, it's hard for me to take time for it.
But here is my first drawing post after a too long time.

I have neglected the drawing a bit...blame it on the crocheting, knitting, sewing, reading, and of course the work at the computer and in the house and the garden.
My subject for this week: our lazy, lovely cats!


This is our oldest cat, Ward. He is almost sixteen years old, and hard to take a picture of!
He's the sweetest and smartest cat in the world!

A cold!

And this is why I neglected my blog, my crafting projects and my family: I had to stay in bed with a real bad cold for three days.
I really hate this!

My week in drawings

Had lunch in this café, "Den Artist", the artist. (it's close to a museum)

This week my drawing subject is: random things happening this week.
So I made a sketch of a woman eating soup and of my coffee!

And this is a quick sketch on the train, I'm always afraid people will notice me, while drawing them.

My last portraits for this week. I loved to draw the girl with the rosy cheeks, makes her look very sweet.

Portraits #1

I thought it would be fun to copy some old portraits, not with oil, but with a more modern medium: a rapidograph pen.
The result is a bit weird, but I quite like it.

The man on the left is Francis I, a french king of the 16th century. I think he looks quite vain.

I neglected the drawing a bit the last days, but here is my challenge for this week: flowers!
